Poor design - low resolution
The app started only displaying low resolution images, even on an iPad Air. You need to zoom in to be able to read anything. This is a very poor experience. It did not do this previously. The app should take advantage of the high resolution of the iPad.

Lousy app now wants you to pay
I have been using this app for a couple months now and then despite its non-user friendliness. Now suddenly they want you to pay and sign in. Brilliant move. They might have considered redesigning it before doing this. Now they'll lose the handful of folks who can bear to struggle through using it. You see, the way it works is you make it better get a base of readers, THEN charge for it.

Unreliable
Will not refresh to latest edition with stunning regularity. I cannot understand how the electronic edition frequently arrives later than my other newspapers are thrown onto my driveway.

Crashes a lot
Crashes a lot, hard to stay in one article, it just does what it wants.

Don't waste your time
Was someone actually paid to develop this POS? And then some genius at the Senile decided it was worth paying for? Horrible. Slow, buggy, crap interface clearly designed by idiots. Lasted 10 minutes in my iPad before I deleted it. This SW is garbage-- an embarassment for all involved.

Awesome!
This local news app is great! And it totally s**** on other local news apps like Palo Alto online, who think they are the leaders in such just because they are at the "heart" of Silicon Valley. The only suggestion I would make is to add the ability to lock into the page you're reading as sometimes when swiping from top to bottom the page will accidentally turn.

doesn't work offline
The download feature simply doesn't work = this app is *useless* offline, which is really the point of any tablet publication. No matter how many times you open a given edition and 'download' it, it won't load in its entirety without an Internet or 3G connection.

Should be called Santa Cruz Crashes
This app has been out a while. Why is it still so un-stable? You can't make it through one edition without it crashing...

Slow, buggy and crashtastic
This app is just fine, when it works. But beware: it can be a 3-5 minute wait before enough content loads to start reading, and then the app frequently crashes. The good: provides a decent interface to read the entire paper, when it's working. The bad: - Frustratingly slow to load content. I'm writing this review today because it refuses to load the Sunday paper. - Crashes frequently - flawed scanning of papers means most articles have bad typos, runtogetherwords, etc. - only loads the first half of some articles - some content often broken - missing images. Example: Sunday comics seldom work - wonky UI means pages often turn themselves. This USA good idea with poor execution. I've gotten used to the Sentinel (AKA Senile) publishing a Web edition full of bugs, and in 15 years of reading online,it has only gotten worse. I should not be surprised their iPad edition is also very flawed.

Nice try but still lousy. - need to move to newsstand
This is basically a retread of the "e-edition" previously available on a pc. This app just downloads images of the actual paper. That is the wrong approach. They should use the newsstand publishing format like the chronicle does. If the sentinal switches to that format I would subscribe immediately. This app, no way.
