The app is confusing and the pages are too small, in comparison to the excellent NYT app. I hope you will disconnect it from Newstand, which I don't use. I thought I was downloading the old WP app!

Simple usability fixes, please
The app is never going to perfectly please everybody, and I am willing to get to know the new design. For the most part I feel that this new format is fine, and allows me to read the content I want to read. On the plus side, I find that the browsing experience is much improved over the previous app, and even improved over the print paper! I find it enjoyable and effective to swipe through the sections and read the headlines and leads, especially if in a hurry or just in news overload as has been the case in light of so much over reporting of recent tragic events. Also on the big plus side is your bottom bar that puts within reach some of my favorite columnists who were hard to find in the previous app. Thanks! On the negative side, I will simply plead for a few minor usability fixes. 1. Scrolling. In the old app (and most apps, for that matter), a small flick of the page in the scrolling direction will send the page in a smooth and continuing scroll that slowly decelerates and allows you to control the reading area with minimal effort. Thank you Apple. Why have your developers monkeyed with this??? Your scrolling is a horrible distraction, requiring me to LABORIOUSLY scroll, scroll, scroll, moving every bit of the scrolling distance with swipes of my finger. Please give back the wonderful afford antes of scrolling that Apple built in to the beautiful iPad. This should be easy. 2. Closely related to scrolling, sometimes your articles are paged, requiring the horizontal swipe to go to the next page, and sometimes they are scrolled. It does not matter why you think this makes sense; to the reader it is terribly annoying and distracting to inadvertently page over to the next article when you were supposed to scroll, or try to scroll when you are supposed to page.... We wish to remain immersed in the CONTENT, please, not be constantly reminded to think about more laborious afford antes in your app. Another easy fix. 3. Finally, WHY IS THERE AN AD on the bottom of the screen. I find this hugely annoying and mildly insulting. I PAY for the subscription, and in an age where you are hemorrhaging subscribers, you should not further insult the ones who remain. Thanks for placing this annoying ad right where we are likely to inadvertently rest a thumb to have our reading experience interrupted. This is yet a third distraction that takes me OUT of the reading experience, requiring me to stay vigilant for the stupid ad bar down there as if I am using some "freeware" version of an app. This is not freeware guys, I pay my bill regularly and on time. Ditch the ads. Overall, I can accept just about any app design, and I realize that you have created a design that, on the whole, is a clever solution to the challenge of putting a newspaper on this platform. I suspect many of your readers will feel the same way. The simple fixes above would go a long way to stop annoying your subscribers. With every annoying distraction we have yet another reason to wonder how the NYT app compares...

Move to newsstand big mistake
I loved your old stand-alone Washington Post app. First thing I opened on my iPad. Your integration with apple's newsstand was a big step in the WRONG direction.

Sudoku and Crossword puzzles
I am hoping that this update, or one in the near future, will make it possible to fill out the crossword puzzle and the Sudoku on my iPad. It is frustrating that so far, I can see these puzzles, but cannot access them from the app. Other than that, I like the Washington Post app for iPad. My rating would be much higher if I could work on the puzzles I mention in this review.

Really Liking the Full Page Read of The Post

Feels Incomplete
Why does the Post still download a picture of the print edition? Why does the print edition have more news articles than the digital edition? Washington Post, we expect much better from you. Your content in the digital edition is sparse. As it stands now, if you charged for the content I wouldn't subscribe. You have a lot of work to do to catch up with nytimes, wsj, zite, etc.
