Not fit for prime time
Hard to believe in 2013 we have a clunky scan of a newspaper. Now both the printed and electronic version are doomed. Awful looking site to sign up is a clear indicator that the app is bad.

When compared to the earlier version...
...this gets at least 4 stars! Not perfect, however, if one views it the way it was meant to be displayed (an electronic replica of the actual paper), it's quite easy to navigate, especially when compared to the previous version. It even works well on my slow 1st generation iPad!

Change the app or cancel my subscription ...
It seems as if they searched the app world for a source to power the PD, and chose the worst available option. Far from intuitive, it is klutzy and slow, and I find little to like. Logging in, for example, required a password change - they sent me a new password - and there is nowhere on the app to change it to something I will ever hope to remember. Typefaces are too small to read in full page view, and zooming in and out takes time to load. Navigation by article is difficult. Did anyone at the PD actually use this app before they launched it? If they can't come out with something better - soon - I will cancel my PD subscription.

Very poor app
I was able to read the paper once only after I downloaded the app. Now no matter how I try I cannot look at today's paper again. I can't believe that we are only allowed to look at the paper one time a day. I'll have to see if it lets me read tomorrow's paper. I absolutely hate how this app works. When you have an actual paper in your home you can read it whenever you want. This app locks you out after one reading. What happens if you need to look up a death notice later in the day? I can't believe we are paying for this!! The Plain Dealer needs to do something about this NOW!!!

Start over from scratch
This app is passable as a supplement to the physical paper, but it is completely inadequate as THE Plain Dealer when home delivery stops this summer except for several days a week. I like digital anything and can tolerate little quirks, and I read the PD's iPad app regularly. But I can't imagine the average reader giving up their physical paper in favor of this! The PD needs to think this whole thing through from scratch. Look at the New York Times, both its app and its HTML5 website. Or the Wall Street Journal. Or others. This is an utter dog by comparison. I also find the latest update buggy. At times all I get is a white screen. I have to quit the app or push buttons a while to get it back.
