My 'home' synth
Sunrizer is the synth app I keep coming back to. There are plenty of far out presets for those who like that, but there are a number of more simple ones that I find more musical. And I'm able to adapt them to create my own church organ sounds, brassy tones and others. Interface is straightforward, full polyphony, works great with my external MIDI controller (88 key electric), and the manual is helpful without being intimidating. Great app for people who want to play music, not just fiddle with knobs.

Boards meets Lone
The most beautiful sound I ever heard is 66 Filler. Play C and F together and you will hear Lone/Kona Triangle. Touch the LFO and put it on tune and get that wavering skunked vinyl sound. Beautiful!

Top shelf synth
Sound patches are amazing, and even though there are no x/y modulation pads like most synths, the mod wheel has an ace up it's sleeve. Morph groups. While the arpeggiator is powerful, it is a little less intuitive then some others, would love to see the arp notes defined by pressing keyboard notes. (same idea as the chord button). Ok moving request to their forum. +1.... developers have a forum.

I have been getting these synth apps a lot lately and this one is a great one to have in the arsenal! So far out of the hour or so I have played with it, it has given me a lot of inspiring sounds to start with. Getting this and the Korg IMS-20 and Animoog at the same time I have to say this one is way more bang for the buck. I am loving all of them along with Geo Synth and Addictive Synth as well. For $5 though.....so far so GREAT! Please add BPM #'s though for easier matching

Covers the basics and then some
Has all the classic synth bits -- and you could play with them happily for hours. But just under the surface is a nice effect section, sophisticated arps, and so much more. One of my first iPad synth apps and still one of my favorites. If I had to single out a flaw, it would be that you can't drag the keyboard while playing after an initial note... But if you are trying to get that much range you really owe it to yourself to get some hardware anyway :-)

Perhaps My Favorite iOS Synth
Sunrizer is truly a work to behold. The sonic capabilities of this synth are breathtaking. I always wanted a Roland JP-8000 and this is capable of creating very similar sonic landscapes. It also has some extraordinary MIDI capabilities built-in including easy-to-map knob and slider assignment from your favorite controller. Truly a marvel to behold and a joy to play!
