Not that bad!
Maybe they updated its functionality but I don't see banner or footer ads like everyone is complaining about. Occasionally a full page. Which is unacceptable to me, a customer paying over $150 A YEAR for the privilege of reading this fine paper. Desperately needs to add comment functionality. Generally lacking a sense of hierarchy and a feeling of what news is Big news and what is minor. But that's industry wide.

Bad UI for hyperlinks
The new UI can't tell the difference between scrolling by the blue hyperlinks in a story and clicking on them. So it makes scrolling through articles a nightmare. If your finger goes near a link as you are 'paging down' off you go- unless you are reading on the subway- in which case you got to a dead 'no connection' page and it's two clicks to get back to what you were reading. As articles are having more and more hyperlinks (for no reason) reading an article on iPhone is now pretty impossible. Needs a fix to look for 'mouse up' to tell difference between a scrolling 'page down' and a tap.

Bad update
This WAS a good app. But now you can't do much of anything from settings and worst if all- I can't share stories by Twitter. Pop-up says the internet connection to Twitter failed. Deleted app, re-installed it. Same pop-up. And there is no place in the iPhone 5s settings to enable Twitter. Had to be done by the app. My iPad is upgraded to iOS 7 and its upgraded NY Times app works fine as before. Bad, hasty iPhone update. FIX IT!!!

First, the update takes away the dictionary but you can manually add it back (did not see any warning or instructions, just figured it out). When you try to define a word and it says not found, you can click on manage at the bottom of the screen and add it back. The app always crashes on me at some point while I am reading a long article. Most annoyingly though, when I click on a link in a story it should take me to the linked content inside the app, not to their website! And especially not make me have to type my password every time I get taken to the website too. Very annoying.

Too many hyperlinks
Since the ios7 update it is way too easy to accidentally click in the hyperlinks within articles. I was reading one this morning and accidentally clicked links no less than 10 times. I don't remember it being so sensitive before. I'm using my finger to scroll down as before, but now the links are too sensitive so I find myself opening them instead of scrolling down.
