Good app
Crashes all the time. You'll be reading an article and suddenly the app will close and it's super annoying. Hopefully they can get rid of these bugs quickly in a future update. Until then... 2 stars

Preliminary verdict: from 1 up to 3 stars
10/25/2013: trying again on app. Laboriously re edited section list (lost in last 'upgrade') and will see how long it lasts. Regarding ads; click them away. Paper's gotta make money, and NYT's ad revenue has dropped tremendously. Got to see if it stops crashing spontaneously. Need to allow articles to be opened in Safari directly within app. NYT, you swing enough pipe to get your app OUT of the Newstand. Don't stand for Apple's too-many-taps architecture! iPhone 5, 64 Gb, iOS 7.0.3. NYT v. 4.0.2

Unstable 20%-30% of the time
The app abruptly makes the screen go black momentarily, followed by a return to my iPhone screen. This is particularly annoying given my paid subscription, but to be expected given the extent of the change to the app. More stability is needed!!!

Crashes on 4S when playing video
One of my favorite sections of The Times is the video section but after the ios7 update the app crashes after about 5 minutes into a video. The overall design and content is nice, it just needs to stop crashing.

Messed up in apple's iOS 7
Great news source but crashes frequently since I installed iOS7 on my iPhone. Also the new NYT iOS 7 design/format is less friendly -- It's irritating to scroll to another page to access the menu vs. tapping an ever present menu icon on the current page. A stupid change... in keeping with other bizarre and pointless changes to apple's new iOS.
