Thermostats are great, app. Not so much.
Recently installed 4 nests in my house (yes, it was expensive) The thermostats are fantastic, the install was incredibly simple, the App on my iPad & iPhone 5 constantly looses contact with the nest server and occasionally comes back. Most of the time I need to completely close the application to get back to my thermostats. God forbid that I now get up off the sofa to turn off the heat downstairs now! Joy. Now fix the app.

So far so good
Just purchased the nest 1gen and installed the t-stat in my apartment. Reason being I have had high energy costs (gas and electric combo) in the past year which should justify the purchase. I am still waiting on my schedule to be setup before I am able to make any assumptions on the device. So far the access to the nest remotely hasn't had any issues with my network or cell network. No adjustments needed to be made on my home network.

Alot of connectivity issues lately
So nothing has changed in my wifi configuration and my nest shows its connected but the past few weeks i have lost access to my router from the app quite often. Not sure its on my end as its started to happen recently.

Steady and Reliable
I've made a 180ยบ change in this app and the entire system. I now have two Nest devices in house, one Nest I, and one Nest II. I was having original connectivity issues with my first....the Nest I. I had a heating zone fail this winter and decided on one more Nest to keep an eye on that zone remotely....hopefully. After installing my new Nest II, I was still having connectivity issues with the Nest I. I then realized I had seen a "reset" in the settings menu. Once it was reset, it has been rock solid. Both devices, rock solid now for a month....just amazing and just a joy to check and adjust the temp from afar, from work, while on the way home, etc. The statistical data that is compiled and emailed to you each month, top notch and informative. The app display of current weather conditions, and zone temps, very cool and accurate. Good job Nest! We control the two Nest devices through 2 iphones, 1 ipad, 1 laptop and 1 desktop computer...all flawless. Initial Review.....Whether attempting control through iPad or iPhone, response it slow, and have intermittent question mark displays. When checking the device, it shows "connected" in disagreement with the App display. This is the most important feature of this device. With no remote web connectivity....we all could have purchased a much cheaper programmable thermostat. It seems the issue is with their server control....we are at the mercy of "Nest" IT control....not a pretty thought.

Be patient, this app and t-stat are great
I love this thermostat. Nothing beats being able to turn on the heater or AC from bed!

Great thermostat but weak app
Not very intuitive to use. The calendar is a bit difficult. All options should be available regardless if viewing mode and why can't you change the temperature by turning the thermostat on the app like you do with the real one? Why up and down buttons? Not very consistent. I'm hoping for an overhaul on this app. Version 4.0 soon?
