Soooo much wasted screen real estate
It blows my mind how horribly designed the UI is on both the iPad and iPhone. It's way too difficult to see basic things like current temp and humidity, which should be on the default view. Instead, you have to click on the thermostat, then settings, then "at a glance". If its "at a glance" info, why would you bury it so deep in the UI? Please use the screen real estate. Don't just make a big open space with no info and require three clicks to get any info. And put the settings in portrait mode! Requiring landscape to do anything in the app makes no sense either. Come on. It's not that hard to design such simple UI elements.

Great Product...
I've installed 4 of the Nest 2.0 thermostats in the last week. Each one took less than 20 minutes total (including wall repairs) to install. They connected effortlessly to the internet and thus far have never disconnected or been unreachable by the iOS apps. Occasionally, the app hangs when launched, but quitting and restarting the app always works (this is an app bug, not a connection problem). I concur with others on the iPhone landscape mode thing... dumb. You need to make Away mode accessible from portrait mode and you need each thermostat icon to display both the set temp and current room temp (without having to tap the icon). I don't see why you can't just include all the menus in portrait mode as well. I'm still giving your product 5 stars because the primary functions of internet connectivity and "learning" work and work well. Love the Away function. I can press Away and it sets all of my thermostats for my Home location away at the same time. I wish I knew more about how the thing actually works (sensors, how the thermostats work together, set temp vs target temp time). I think a user / discussion forum on your website would be a good idea. I also love the Energy page. You can see your percentage of daily usage on a timeline and total. I would like to see more analytics as time goes on. The ability to have reports and more of them is a good idea. Great product with much more potential.

Don't Buy Thermostat Until App Connectivity is Fixed
People should not buy the Nest thermostat until internet connectivity issue is fixed. The ability to remotely control your heating and air conditioning is such a large part of Nest features and product differentiation, that having unreliable connectivity is a good reason not to buy… until it's fixed.

This has potential.
Areas that I see need improvement: Thermostats won't connect if SSID is not broadcasting. Main iPhone screen has a ton if wasted space. It should have a single touch to enable away mode without landscape. It should have a easy way to program a one time change (i.e. return from trip/work early) Icons could easily show measured temp. It take too many clicks to check temp, especially if you have two or more Nests. There is a lot of potential - when connected via cellular data, a temp setting change hits the Nest surprisingly fast.

Freaking Awesome!
This is an extremely useful utility. I have a part-time apartment I use. If I forget to turn off the HVAC when I leave it is no problem, if I want to warm the place before I come into town it is nice when I arrive. I have been known to adjust the HVAC from the couch with this app rather than getting up to do it. (I know; a little lazy, but It is that fast and easy.) A great convenience and energy saver. Just saving having the HVAC running because I forgot to turn it off before leaving the house goes a long way towards offsetting the cost. Please let me buy stock in this company ;-)
