Update: broken boss fight
My "first impressions" review is below (was 5/5 stars), but after over a week of gameplay I'm quite frustrated with the leveling system, and have hit a boss I can't pass, which has paralyzed my progress. I've leveled up my cards substantially, practiced varying strategies, stockpiled the best items, and boosted my health and skills - the boss simply heals itself, endlessly, no matter what I try. The experienced RPG gamer asks, "Could you possibly level-up to pass it"? Well, part of the problem is the card leveling system: it's partly luck-based, and attempting to improve cards can lead to lesser versions. I'm at the point that it's quite common to blow 10 battle's worth of money and end up with WORSE stats. I enjoyed the game at first, but the grind is dull and repetitive and "leveling up" in the game can actually be counter-productive. I'll amend this review if I can get past the level 10 boss. First review, unedited: I just finished the (long but very engaging) intro chapter, and really like the gameplay. Most iPod games I delete in under 5 minutes, but this is worth much more. Uncomplicated gameplay that lends itself to casual and deeper play, entertaining characters, and a cool leveling system = 5/5 stars so far!

Very entertaining!
I'm enjoying this game - it has a good story, entertaining RPG mechanics and I'm curious to see what happens next with these characters. Honestly I'm glad to get away from 'young people in the forest with swords and staffs'
