Stellar App, One (slight) Gripe . . . .
I love this app! It's everything that I could have asked for and more! I can't be at the festival, but it looks really useful for people who will be there -- including maps that you can personalize, schedules, list of bands that you can mark off to add to your schedule, band info, a free way to "text" your friends who are attending with you (in case you separate or lose each other), in-app streaming radio powered by Slacker Radio featuring Lolla's past and present bands (that can be heard anytime before/after the show!), Facebook/Twitter pages, an in-app store to buy merch that will be shipped to your home (I wish it would have more items available for purchase . . . maybe when they'll add more goods when the festival is underway, I hope?!), etc. There are ads in this app, but I have to say that they are far a few between and completely unobtrusive -- the banner ad pops up here and there, but quickly disappears, and this is VERY much appreciated!!! I also must say that the artwork is totally awesome and the UI is very easy and stress free! I just have one gripe: The above screenshot shows that the advertised iTunes Sampler is supposed to be available to download in the Experience section, but it was not in my app when I opened it the first time! I saw everything else -- the radio, store, FAQ's, Twitter/FB, etc., but no link to download the sampler! I was VERY disappointed about this! I am in NYC, and the above description says it's available to US fans, so I was quite confused! My GPS was running too, so the app should have been able to detect that I'm in the US, using a US iPad/iPhone, etc. However, the app happened to crash while I was streaming music and trying to open the Visit Lollapalooza.com link -- when I reopened to the app and went into the Experience section to restart the stream, to my surprise, the iTunes Sampler link suddenly appeared out of nowhere! I'm hoping this is just a glitch and that there will be a fix ASAP -- I would hate for your app to get a bad reputation because of this problem. I sure was upset when I didn't see it the first time around, and I was going to knock a star off your rating for it . . . thankfully I don't have to, but I'd hate for other users to have this issue and lower your rating. (If you seem to be experiencing this problem, folks, try restarting the app to see if the link will reappear, and be sure your GPS is enabled in the app!) By the way, I totally suggest that you download the sampler, people! It's a 20-song sampler spanning all of the years that Lolla has been in existance through today, and features Moby, Tokyo Police Club, Company of Thieves, Sleater-Kinney, Shabazz Palaces, Fisbone, G. Love, Primus, Grinderman, Isolbel Campbell and Mark Lanegan, Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings, John Butler Trio (this is the only LIVE Lolla track), My Morning Jacket, Minus the Bear, Jane's Addiction, J Mascis, Sonic Youth, !!!, Silversun Pickups, and Freelance Whales -- these are all the studio versions (except the John Butler Trio). It would have been cool if they were live recordings from the shows they did, but maybe Lolla will make other available freebies (feature all past years/shows please!) for its fans who have their app (wink, wink!) in the near future, and WHEN you do, please send app-notifications so that we don't miss these free goodies! ;-p Been a fan since '91, and I hope you fix that one problem I had. This app is otherwise stellar, and you should get it even if you're not going to Lolla for the free sampler, free streaming music, the store, loads of band and event info you may like to read, etc.!! I hope this app will be the kind of app that will be updated frequently for year-round use because true fans will totally appreciate it! Thanks, Lolla! :-)
