No iCloud
Syncing happens through their own service which means you need yet another login to something. Apple have iCloud to developers for a reason.

Each release seems to be a downgrade
In previous versions I had episodes automatically added to lists and continuous playback turned on. I then could go to a list, see all my downloaded episodes, hit play and listen. Now, continuous playback is gone. I have to manually add episodes to the Up Next list. Cumbersome micro-management. Also - In a previous version, played episodes were automatically removed from lists, in the next release you had to hit a couple buttons to remove all played episodes, now you have to remove them one by one. I purchased this app to simplify my podcast listening experience, but it keeps getting more complex.

Pretty good, sluggish, no global playback speed
Much prettier than version 3, but it still can be sluggish. Marking an episode as played on my iPhone 5 *occasionally* freezes up the app for a couple seconds, for instance. Each podcast remembers its own separate playback speed, which is way too fiddly in practice. There really ought to be a global playback speed option that overrides individual subscription settings. Also, no more continuous play from the "Unplayed" playlist makes me sad. :( I'd recommend Pocket Casts 4 instead — easily a 5-star app. Instacast 4 is miles better than Apple's official app (yet to be updated for iOS 7), and light-years better than Downcast (whose name accurately describes my face after looking at its ugly UI).

Losing my loyalty...
I've been an Instacast user since a friend recommended it to me, probably close to 2 years or so ago now. I've told countless people about it and even bought the mac version (which I don't use nearly as often) and have ranted about its excellence since day one. That said, I have noticed some changes in the last few updates. It seems that the more ability and technical genius that gets added behind the scenes, the more complicated and convoluted the act of getting use out of this app becomes. My initial reaction to the iOS7 redesign was that although it is visually nice, I wouldn't have a clue how to use it if this were my first time picking it up. It relies very heavily on prior knowledge of the app, the organization and button layout seems at times out of place and i've encountered many errors with downloaded podcasts that won't play and subsequent app crashes. I know it is a first-run iOS7 app so i'm willing to give it a bit longer for the kinks to be worked out. That said, I'm not sure the usability of the app will be greatly improved. I am beginning to look elsewhere (there are some really great iOS7 alternatives FYI) and I am afraid to say that Instacast is beginning to lose my loyalty in keeping with them. I'll stick it out a bit longer but I really hope we see some improvements soon. This seems like a pretty wide release to leave it buggy and inconsistent for too long. Don't let me down Instacast.

playback order messed up
In a Smart Playlist of downloaded podcasts, when a podcast is played from the middle of the list and playback finishes the next one played is the 1st in the list rather than the next one in sequence--very annoying new behavior
