Dear Complainers
Hey guys! Before you buy this app, and before you start complaining, please notice there is no fern section. The plants are "Trees" and "Wildflowers". Are ferns EITHER of those? No. If you want there to be a section about them I suggest sending your complaint directly. They don't check comments guys, those are for potential buyers! Anyway, this app is everything I hoped for and more, a great supplement to my Audubon birding app. I'd give both .

Well..
On first look, it's pretty nice, but I've found several species that, according to their distro maps, don't occur in the PNW. Why? Better to make room for more species that do. As well, there is no section that includes ferns, in the PNW!

Audubon Pacific Northwest
I think this is an amazing app with nothing else in the market that even compares. Audubon Guides has a record of regularly updating, so if there are some species errors, I am sure they will be corrected. Seems to me it is better to bring them to the attention of the developer through a direct email. My husband grew up in the Pacific Northwest and on future visits this will be a great resource to have with us.

Pacific NW???
I bought this app after reading a number of reviews and visiting the web site. Sounded like a good thing to have. As Hokumelh said, there are a number of species in the app that don't occur anywhere near the Pacific NW, as the app's range map clearly shows. Also, I couldn't find a number of common species that occur commonly where I live (Central Oregon). And the species selection is pretty limited in each grouping I've looked at so far. I've looked pretty thoroughly at birds, spiders, and flowers—all of which are lacking. Mammals seems OK. Don't about the other categories yet. My expectations may have been too high, but for an app that weighs in at >600 MB, I really expected to at least be able to identify common species. Based on what I've seen so far in this app, I'm going to pass on the other Audobon apps I'd planned to buy. For me, it's better to lug real field guides along and know that I've got reasonably complete references.

Just what I've been wanting
This app is fantastic for a whole host of reasons. I was wanting something with birds in the general area so I could hone in on them more easily. . . this does that and so much more. Multiple birdsongs for many individual birds, photos that can be zoomed with the tap of a magnifying glass, easy and fast accessing of not only different birds, but so many other plants and critters! (I had been concerned that such variety would slow things down, which is not the case at all.) It also offers helpful, basic "guide" info-- most useful for identifying the many options that may be newer to learn. A fantastic value, a wealth of a resource for the curious Pacific NW soul. . can't wait to transfer it to my iPod, too. Thanks!
